KC man charged with unlawful possession of a firearm

CLAY COUNTY, MO — A bond reduction hearing is at 9 a.m. Friday in Clay County for a Kansas City man charged with unlawful possession of a firearm.

Bond is currently set at $100,000.

According to the probable cause statement, on Saturday, law enforcement was patrolling the area of Burlington Road near E. 10th Avenue when they spotted Mikal Malik Beason, whom had previously fled from them on June 8 and had two active felony warrants. Beason was then placed under arrest, during which he attempted to ditch a blue backpack he was wearing. A search of the backpack revealed a Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun, a loaded magazine, and ammunition. He is prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm due to previous felonies and is currently on probation and parole for two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance…
