Tuesday: One of the Hottest Days of the Heat Wave
This morning starts with near-record warmth. This afternoon surges to the upper 90s with a heat index near 105. This rounds out the hottest start to September since 1954. Otherwise, expect sunny skies and a southwest breeze at 10-20 mph.
Wednesday: The Heat Breaks, Strong Storms Move In
Wednesday brings the change you’ve been waiting for, but it comes with a catch. A cold front will trigger storms that develop Wednesday afternoon across the Kansas City area and communities to the south.
Storm Threat:
- Severe Risk: Low (1/5) for strong, damaging winds and potential hail
- Flooding Risk: Low (1/4) for heavy rain that could cause localized flooding in some areas
It doesn’t look to rain all day. The morning could see rain in the metro, but the better chances will be in northern Missouri. Kansas City’s most likely time for rain and storms is the afternoon and evening.
