The first report from the research team hired by the Mayor’s Commission on Reparations in Kansas City is out, and some may be surprised by what isn’t included because, after a year of work, it’s not done yet.
I’m OK with that since I think we only get one shot at this, and I would rather see a slow and methodical process than a fast, sloppy one.
Whatever conclusions are drawn from this extensive look at what harm has been done to Black Kansas City over decades — who or what is responsible, and whether reparations are in order — may be the basis for a definitive declaration on reparations in this city going forward. Let’s get it right, not rushed…
