LIBERTY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Liberty man is recovering in the hospital after being trapped for four hours in a trench at a home on Ellis Street. Liberty Fire and Kansas City Fire Department crews worked together to free the man Monday afternoon.
How the rescue unfolded
The call came in around 3:40 p.m. Monday. Liberty Fire requested mutual aid from the Kansas City Fire Department to help with an entrapment.
The homeowner said a private contractor was working on the home’s foundation when a wall collapsed, trapping a worker inside the trench. The trench was about two feet wide and eight feet long, according to KCFD Battalion Chief Riley Nolan. Nolan said the trench was about two feet wide, eight feet long, and eight feet deep.
“Pretty tight space,” Nolan said.
