Children’s Mercy teams up with Center High School for behavioral health program

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A first-of-its-kind program is launching in the metro for students in one school district, and it’s all to get the help they need for mental health.

More than 15 million children across the country require mental health services, but many don’t get the care they need.

Here in the Kansas City metro, 40 to 50 percent of youth go untreated.

At a news conference on Tuesday, the Center School District announced it’s teaming up with Children’s Mercy and Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Kansas City to make sure its students don’t fall through the cracks.

The trio is launching a new pilot program in the district aimed at tackling the mental health crisis among school-aged children.

The program is designed to proactively support the social and emotional needs of students by improving access to mental health services and education at school and at home.
