The historic Grand Avenue Garage was located at 718 Grand Boulevard (previously known as Avenue). This building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 3, 2015.
The garage building was vacant at the time it was nominated for the National Register. The garage was constructed in 1921-1922. It had a concrete foundation and brick walls. The engineer associated with the construction was E. H. Gill. The builder was the McClure Construction Company.
According to the Redfin real estate website, the property was last sold in March 2015. The building was supposed to be converted to the 718 Grand Lofts which would house 16 lofts on the second and third floors, have underground parking, and commercial space on the main floor. The Facebook page of 718 Grand Lofts has not had any postings since 2013.
About the garage
The Grand Avenue Garage represented an example of what an early single-ramp parking garage looked like. This was a common type of structure in downown Kansas City in the early 1900s.
