Man pleads guilty in deadly KCK Halloween party shooting

KANSAS CITY, Kan. — A Kansas City, Kansas, man has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in a deadly 2022 Halloween party shooting.

Daijon Estell pleaded guilty in Wyandotte County court to one county of criminal discharge of a firearm at an occupied dwelling.

Estell originally faced a slew of charges including first-degree murder, aggravated assault and 10 other charges. Those charges have since been dismissed.

Seventeen-year-old Katron Harris died in the shooting at a KCK Halloween party near S. 50th Street and Elmwood Avenue. In addition to Harris’ death , five teenagers between the ages of 15 and 16 were injured by gunfire.

Police said there were as many as 100 high schoolers inside at the party when an older, uninvited group arrived. Police said they started shooting when they were asked to leave.

KCK police said they believed there were multiple shooters who drove away, then turned around and drove past the house again, firing more shots, according to previous court records .
