KCPD investigates suspicious death of infant in Midtown Friday afternoon

The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department is investigating the suspicious death of an infant in Midtown Friday afternoon, according to KCPD.

Police responded to a residence in the 4100 block of Forest Avenue around 1:24 p.m. on a report of an infant not breathing.

Upon arrival, officers and EMS officials were directed inside a residence where they found an unresponsive baby.

EMS provided medical aid to the baby who was declared deceased at the scene, according to a spokesperson with KCPD.

When detectives responded to the scene for a routine investigation, the circumstances surrounding the death were deemed suspicious. Subsequently, more detectives and crime scene investigators arrived to process the scene.

Detectives spoke with people who were present when officers initially arrived.

As of 5:09 p.m. on Friday, the death continues to be considered suspicious, according to a spokesperson with KCPD.

No other details on the cause of death were immediately available. The investigation is ongoing.
