Former Center Middle School student alleges school security officer attacked her in 2022: Lawsuit

A Kansas City student and her mother filed a lawsuit against the Center School District earlier this month, alleging that a school security officer assaulted and injured the student at a CSD middle school in 2022.

The student, referred to in court documents as K.M., alleges that Jarvis L. Jones, a 54-year-old Grandview resident, attacked her in a hallway at Center Middle School, 326 E 103rd St., on Oct. 20, 2022, as she walked down the hall past two fighting students.

The lawsuit was filed Oct. 4, 2025 in Jackson County Court. According to the lawsuit, Jones followed K.M., who was 13 at the time of the alleged assault, into the hallway during a passing period as she joined a crowd watching the fight. K.M. alleges that Jones, without provocation, pushed her across the hallway and slammed her into a bank of metal lockers on the other side.

When the student fell to the ground, she alleges that Jones forcibly lifted her up, slammed her back into the lockers and then pinned her to the ground. K.M. further alleges that several CMS teachers and staff members saw the whole incident and told Jones to stop, without effect.
