Strong weather system to move into Kansas City. When is widespread rain expected?

If you plan to go outdoors late Friday night, you better go ahead and bring an umbrella. The National Weather Service said a storm system is moving toward Kansas City , bringing widespread rains.

But before the storms move in, the skies will be mostly cloudy, and temperatures will be in the mid-50s. Kansas City’s average temperature this time of year is typically around 57 degrees.

Winds will be light, about five to 10 mph in the morning, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Rain showers in Kansas City forecast

A robust weather system over New Mexico bringing heavy rains to the Southern Plains is expected to move towards the Kansas City area on Friday. The weather service said more clouds and increased humidity will push into the area as the storm system nears the Kansas City region.

“If you’re heading out Friday evening, bring an umbrella or poncho,” the weather service said on social media.

Widespread rain showers are expected to start in the area Friday night and continue into Saturday morning. The weather service said some areas might hear thunder, but no severe weather is expected.
