The Kansas City Chiefs, determined to capture their third straight Super Bowl title, made a notable attempt to upgrade their defense at the 2024 NFL trade deadline.
With an eye on improving their secondary, the Chiefs aimed to acquire a high-caliber cornerback to solidify their lineup.
Their target was four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore, who had been a standout for the New Orleans Saints.
Drafted 11th overall by the Saints in 2017, Lattimore quickly established himself as one of the league’s premier defensive backs. Over his career, he has accumulated 405 tackles, 15 interceptions, and 88 pass breakups, earning accolades such as the 2017 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year.
NFL insider Jonathan Jones of CBS Sports highlighted the Chiefs’ confidence leading into Week 9.
“Leading into the Week 9 Sunday slate, the Chiefs believed they had the best shot at landing Lattimore,” Jones said.
However, despite Kansas City’s push, their initial offer of a 2026 third-round pick fell short.
