Consider Kansas City snowbound.
A major winter storm that produced blizzard conditions has dumped more than 6 inches of snow across most of the metro area, according to snow reports submitted to the National Weather Service .
Areas primarily in the Northland and western half of the metro have seen between 6 and 8 inches of snow, and some areas have seen more than 10 inches.
The weather service said the snow is expected to continue into Sunday night, with an additional 4 to 8 inches expected for most of the area. Near the Iowa border, snowfall will be less, with only 2 to 4 inches likely.
There were also reports of thundersnow on Sunday. A few lightning strikes were reported in Peculiar and Raymore as well as in midtown and south Kansas City, the weather service said.
Blizzard conditions are expected to continue, with winds gusting out of the north between 30 and 40 mph. This will reduce visibility to 1/4 mile or less and lead to drifting snow.
“Travel will continue to be extremely hazardous,” the weather service said.
