Kansas City Severe Storms: Hail, Flood Risk as Rainfall Tops 2 Inches Through Monday Morning

Kansas City, Missouri – Strong to severe storms will push into western Missouri as early as 6 p.m. Sunday, bringing large hail, damaging winds, and up to 2 inches of rainfall to parts of the state overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, storms are expected to arrive in the Kansas City metro between 6 and 9 p.m., with activity spreading east toward Columbia and Jefferson City by midnight and lasting through 3 a.m. Monday. The greatest threats include wind gusts over 60 mph, quarter-size hail, and localized flash flooding.

Heavy rain is forecast across much of northern and central Missouri, with St. Joseph, Kansas City, and Butler likely to receive between 1.5 to 2 inches by Monday morning. Areas along I-70—including Sedalia, Warrensburg, and Columbia—may also see over an inch of rainfall, increasing the risk of ponding on roadways and poor drainage flooding…
