Royals’ affiliate buys Overland Park Aspiria campus’ mortgage

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Royals have confirmed with FOX4 that a business affiliated with the team has bought the mortgage of a possible stadium site in Johnson County, Kansas — the old Sprint Campus near 119th and Nall, now known as Aspiria.

“The Kansas City Royals continue to explore all options throughout our community to develop a new stadium for the team,” part of a team statement said that FOX4 obtained late Wednesday afternoon. “We have not yet decided on a site, and any assertion to the contrary is inaccurate.”

“As part of our ongoing efforts, we have negotiated with or made investments in multiple potential sites – both in Missouri and in Kansas,” the statement goes on to say. “One of these investments was the acquisition (by an affiliate of the Royals) of the mortgage on the Aspiria campus through an arms-length sale process.”
