First Warn Sunday as spotty storms roll in this afternoon

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A First Warn remains in place for Sunday as afternoon thunderstorms are possible. You can tell the atmosphere has quite a bit of moisture. As our next cold front drops in throughout the afternoon, that moisture and warm air will help spark a few thunderstorms.

The latest data suggests only a few cells will form on that front, but they could be strong. Gusty winds and hail are the biggest concerns. The latest data also suggests a higher chance for strong thunderstorms lies south/southeast of Kansas City – Anderson, Linn, Bates, and Henry counties. Still, we will all have a chance for at least some rain and generic thunderstorms from 2 to 8 p.m. This cold front drops from northwest to southeast. Once the front passes you, the severe thunderstorms will drop off. We should be able to sneak out near 80° before the front moves through.

MONDAY: Winds will shift out of the northwest after the cold front. That northwest flow keeps us locked into a cooler day on Monday. It looks beautiful in the upper 70s with low humidity and winds NW 10-20 mph…
