Storms, heavy rains in KC area forecast. Will your weekend plans be affected?

Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected Friday in the Kansas City area. While severe weather is not likely, isolated heavy downpours are possible, according to the National Weather Service.

A slow-moving weather system is moving along Interstate 44 in southern Missouri, bringing the chance of scattered showers and a few thunderstorms. Areas that have the best opportunity for the downpours are south and east of Interstate 35.

The rain and cloudy weather will keep temperatures around 81 degrees, a few degrees below the average temperature of 84 degrees that is typical this time of year.

The weather system is expected to shift east of the area, allowing the area to dry out.
