KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Six people have died and five have been injured since Saturday morning in a sudden surge of violence across the Kansas City area.
From Saturday night into Sunday morning alone, the Kansas City Police Department and the Lenexa Police Department were called to five separate scenes. This became a total of six deadly events after an aggravated assault victim from Saturday morning died in the hospital.

Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson released a statement on X, calling the series of cases an “unacceptable wave of gun violence.”
“It is both heartbreaking and infuriating to witness such a senseless loss of life, especially in a moment when we had begun to see signs of real progress,” Johnson said in part. “But this weekend’s violence is a painful reminder of just how fragile that progress can be.”…
