First Warn Forecast: First Warn through Monday for dangerous heat and humidity

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The toughest of the heat will linger through Monday evening with the Heat Advisory remaining in place through 7 PM. We are also watching thunderstorm chances for Monday evening and into the overnight.

Those overnight temperatures only drop into the mid 70s again. Already a warm and muggy start to your Monday morning. Those temperatures climb quickly again. The highest of the heat will be in the 1-7 PM timeframe with yet another afternoon in the lower 90s, feeling as hot as 105 again with high humidity. The wind has been strong, and it will stay that way at least through early afternoon Monday. Then, it slowly starts to taper off.

Let’s talk rain. New information on rain and thunderstorm chances for Monday evening and night. We are seeing a small southward shift on the stalled out front that the storms are likely to fire on. This means that more of the KCTV coverage area could see rain and storms. Those of you in northwest Missouri have the highest confidence. That is also where the level 2/5 risk for severe storms is set up. The chances for you in that region begin much sooner than the rest of us, likely after 5 PM. We will be watching activity that forms in southeast Nebraska that pushes our way. Then, the later we go into Monday evening, latest signs are pointing to firing up some rain and thunderstorms farther south closer to the KC metro. It’s still not a guarantee, but just know that is the latest trend. Looking to happen after 10 PM. How far south they go is the biggest question, but I’d say if you live north of I-70 just be prepared for a few noisy storms to pop up and potentially last into the early overnight. Those of you south of I-70 won’t get much at all from this system. Scattered rain and a few rumbles look to linger at least into late morning Tuesday, with the highest chance again in northern Missouri.

High temperatures every day this week are trending at least at 90 degrees, with many days in the 90 to 93 degree range. This pattern is not breaking down, and it looks like we keep 90s even into next weekend. We see a SMALL trend down in humidity, so at least our feels-like temperatures will not be quite as excessive…
