After shooting near 18th & Vine, local athletes bring positivity back to the community

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Just one week after gunfire erupted near 18th and Vine – leaving one person dead and five others injured – professional athletes with local roots returned to the area to help lift the community’s spirit and invest in its future.

The shooting happened hours after a Juneteenth celebration and cast a dark shadow over a place known for its rich cultural legacy. But this weekend, the focus was on recovery, resilience, and reaching the next generation.

The nonprofit Winner’s Circle hosted basketball clinics and a flag football game where kids got the chance to learn from KC’s best current athletes playing around the world…
