Kansas City man sentenced to prison for re-entering U.S. after deportation

A Mexican national residing unlawfully in Kansas City, Missouri, has been sentenced in federal court for reentering the United States after prior deportation.

Jorge Alejandro Esparza-Lopez, 41, received a sentence of 12 months in federal prison without the possibility of parole, followed by a one-year term of supervised release. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs.

Esparza-Lopez entered a guilty plea on Feb. 26, 2025, to the charge of illegal reentry by a previously removed alien. In his plea, he acknowledged that he was aware of his lack of legal authorization to be present in the United States…
