‘You’re not cool and it is dangerous’: Leaders make plea to refrain from celebratory gunfire

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The July Fourth holiday is right around the corner, and Kansas City representatives are warning of the consequences of celebratory gunfire.

Firing a gun into the air has always been illegal in Kansas City, but under Blair’s Law, the penalties are much harsher in Missouri. Blair’s Law, a part of Senate Bill 754, makes celebratory gunfire illegal within a Missouri municipality.

The law was passed in July 2024 in memory of 11-year-old Blair Shanahan Lane, who died from celebratory gunfire in 2011…
