2 fires in high rise buildings in Kansas City under investigation

KANSAS CITY—Officials are investigating the cause of a fire in a high rise building in Kansas City, Missouri.

Just after 6:30a.m. Saturday, the Kansas City Missouri Fire Department responded to a reported “high rise” fire in the 900 block of Grand, according to to Battalion Chief Riley Nolan. It was later identified as the former Federal Reserve Bank building.

After gaining entrance to the secured building, crews encountered heavy smoke conditions, along with fire on the 1st floor. An offensive attack was initiated, the fire was extinguished with two handlines and a booster line.

Searches were conducted on all floors and came back all clear. While searching the upper floors of the building, heavy smoke conditions were found, but no fire. During overhaul operations, hot spots and small fires on the 1st floor were exposed and quickly extinguished, followed by the ventilation of smoke from the building. There were no injuries reported…
