Temporary jail won’t be done in time for World Cup leaving city leaders not happy

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Some city leaders left frustrated after meeting to review potential sites for a temporary city jail.

On Tuesday, the city manager’s office presented to the council two proposed sites, giving an update on the timeline, cost, and other things.

One idea is for it to go on Front Street in the KC Tow Service Lot. The alternative site puts the jail between I-435 and the Union Pacific railroad.

Both would house at least 130 beds, take anywhere from 12 to 17 months to build, and could cost between $20 to $30 million. Jail staff would also need to be tripled to maintain 24/7 operations…
