Parks & Rec officials say Red Bridge love locks shouldn’t have been removed

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Old Red Bridge in Minor Park has long featured hundreds of locks, with couples pronouncing their love in symbolic fashion.

Recently, a man claiming to be the “Red Bridge Butcher” said he was authorized by the Kansas City Parks & Recreation Department to remove locks from the bridge, saying they were hard on the bridge’s infrastructure.

Parks & Recreation officials refuted the man’s claim and said the department does not remove locks from the Old Red Bridge, which is adjacent to the new bridge located on Red Bridge Road between Holmes and Blue River Road in south Kansas City…
