Mexican national in KC sentenced to prison for illegal re-entry

A 38-year-old Mexican national residing unlawfully in Kansas City, Missouri, has been sentenced in federal court for re-entering the United States following deportation and for illegally possessing a firearm.

Omar Avila-Ramirez received a sentence of 15 months in federal prison without the possibility of parole, followed by a three-year term of supervised release. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Howard F. Sachs.

Avila-Ramirez entered a guilty plea on Jan. 23, 2025, without the benefit of a plea agreement. He admitted to unlawfully returning to the United States after being deported and to possessing a firearm while in the country illegally…
