Audit outlines Kansas City communications failures under former city manager, recommending several changes

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – An audit of the City of Kansas City, Missouri’s communications office was shared Thursday, detailing positives of the department as well as several key areas of concern.

Among those key findings were that city management did not clearly communicate to communications staff or its departments a new organizational structure.

The audit said the City Communications Office “does not have a comprehensive communications plan to guide its operations, messaging and public engagements,” and noted a mechanism to track Kansas City’s Sunshine Law requests has remained unimplemented…
