KC woman charged in boy’s death, sentenced for theft at Leavenworth Walmart

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A Kansas City woman recently charged in the killing of a 3-year-old child earlier this year was sentenced on Friday for a theft incident at a Kansas Walmart last year.

Tara Ann Huerta, 40, was sentenced on Friday in Leavenworth County court to one year in jail after pleading guilty to theft, according to Leavenworth County Attorney Todd Thompson’s office.

According to court records, Huerta unlawfully obtained store merchandise valued at less than $1,500 on or about April 12, 2024, from the Walmart in Leavenworth. Police responded to the store after employees reported Huerta had left without paying for items in her cart…
