KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Wayside Waifs has returned to Kansas City with 34 dogs, including some puppies, after stepping in to help a struggling animal shelter in Arkansas that was overwhelmed and overcrowded.
A team of four staff members and one volunteer, including Trisha Singer, left Wayside Waifs early Thursday morning, driving nearly 600 miles to reach the rural shelter. When they arrived, they found a facility with space for just 14 dogs but housing more than 40. The overcrowding led to poor conditions, and some of the dogs were already showing signs of illness.
“They’ll get everything they need here before they’re made ready for adoption,” Singer said. “That could take anywhere from four or five days to several weeks.”
