LAWRENCE COUNTY, Miss. (WJTV) – The man accused of killing a Kansas City woman and burying her body in a shallow grave in Mississippi pled guilty to first-degree murder.
According to court documents, Charles Sims, 57, entered the plea on August 25, 2025. He waived his right to an indictment before entering his plea. Judge Brad Touchstone sentenced Sims to life in prison in the custody of the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC).

Sims was also ordered to pay a $10,000 court fine, as well as $500 to the District Attorney Investigative Fund, $500 to the Public Defender’s Reimbursement Fund and $500 to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Investigative Fee.
