A Kansas City-area teen will represent Missouri in the National Civics Bee this November in Washington, D.C. Konnor Chipps, who was an eighth grader in the Ray-Pec School District when he won the state’s first-ever Missouri Civics Bee, impressed judges with a proposal to improve MoDOT’s winter road maintenance.
Chipps told Missourinet his research topic came to mind during wintertime last year.
“About January or February, can’t quite remember,” said Chipps-we, of course, had that ginormous snowstorm and all the roads were covered in snow, and you couldn’t get anywhere. So, I just had to write my essay about just kind of how we lack the funds, the effort, the labor, pretty much everything on taking care of roadways, especially in Missouri.”…
