Federal jury convicts Kansas City man in drug and firearm charges

A Kansas City man has been convicted by a federal jury for drug trafficking and illegal firearm possession.

Brandon R. Haywood, 47, was found guilty on Wednesday, Sept. 24, 2025, of three charges: possession with intent to distribute cocaine, possession of a firearm in furtherance of drug trafficking, and felon in possession of a firearm.

The charges stem from an incident on Feb. 4, 2023, when officers were dispatched to a store in Independence, Missouri, for a reported sexual assault. Haywood was identified as the suspect. On Feb. 15, 2023, he returned to the same store and was taken into custody. His vehicle was towed and later searched under a state-issued warrant. Inside the vehicle, investigators recovered a Glock Model 23 .40-caliber handgun, Haywood’s wallet, and about 1.05 ounces (30 grams) of cocaine stored in the center console…
