KANSAS CITY, MO — A 16-year-old boy was shot and killed near Kansas City’s Bay Water Park on Saturday evening, sparking renewed calls for community action against youth violence.
Teen Identified As Ta’Kori Jones
Police identified the victim as Ta’Kori Jones, who was shot just before 5:30 p.m. Saturday near Longview Road, outside the popular south Kansas City water park. Officers said Jones was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
The park, which has been closed for the season, reportedly remains a frequent gathering spot for neighborhood teens. On Sunday, residents described the area as unusually quiet — a stark contrast to the chaos that unfolded the day before.
“We Should Be Angry”
Community advocate Rosilyn Temple, founder of KC Mothers in Charge, said the shooting should anger everyone who cares about Kansas City’s future.
