Unclaimed property auction breaks 15-year record in Missouri

Missouri State Treasurer Vivek Malek announced the results of the 2025 Unclaimed Property Auction, held October 9–10 in Independence, where total sales surpassed $319,000—the highest figure achieved in a single auction in 15 years.

The 2025 auction featured items from roughly 1,000 safe deposit boxes transferred to the Treasurer’s Office after about five years of inactivity. The event continues to attract significant regional participation, offering bidders the opportunity to purchase unclaimed property awarded to the highest offer. Under Missouri law, proceeds from these sales are deposited into the state’s Abandoned Fund Account, where the money remains accessible for rightful owners to claim at any time.

“This year’s record-breaking auction reflects the strong public interest in the program and our commitment to stewardship of unclaimed assets,” Treasurer Malek said. “I want to thank everyone who attended and participated, and extend my appreciation to our dedicated staff whose hard work made this event such a success.”…
