A Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper opened fire on a suspect late Monday night following a police chase that crossed state lines.
Just before 9:15 p.m., Kansas City, Missouri, police were notified about a vehicle pursuit involving the Independence Police Department.

The pursuit entered Kansas and then reentered Missouri just after 9:30 p.m. At that time, the Missouri State Highway Patrol became involved.
