Kansas City Doctor Severely Injured in Hit-and-Run Transferred for Specialized Care as Police Continue Search for Driver

KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI — A Kansas City doctor critically injured in a September hit-and-run has been transferred to a Colorado hospital for specialized neurological care, while police continue to search for the driver responsible for the crash.

Dr. Saswat Das, a pediatric cardiologist at Children’s Mercy Hospital, was biking home from work on the evening of September 17 when he was struck by a car near 39th Street and Harrison Parkway.

The driver fled the scene, leaving Das with severe head trauma and other life-threatening injuries. He was rushed to St. Luke’s Hospital, where he has spent weeks undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.

Doctor’s Remarkable Recovery Progress

Despite the extent of his injuries, Das has made what his family calls “miraculous progress.”
