$7M transformation brings historic KC landmark back to life

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas and other representatives officially reopened the historic Ellison Hotel Wednesday morning, marking the completion of a $7 million renovation that once again transformed the nearly 100-year-old landmark into affordable housing.

The building, located at the corner of Armour and Broadway Boulevard in Midtown, now offers 68 units featuring new kitchens, updated bathrooms and fresh paint throughout the space.

The reopening aligns with Lucas’ plan to expand affordable and accessible housing across Kansas City. The mayor’s goal is to open 10,000 new and restored units citywide.

“We are at about 6,500 units,” Lucas said of the city’s affordable housing availability. “Fortunately, we have a few more projects that are coming our way because when we do housing in Kansas City, what we are doing is building affordability, accessibility, transit-oriented development. It’s really urban planning in many ways at its best.”…
