BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. (KCTV) – The longest government shutdown in U.S. history has ended, but it demonstrated how hard times can bring out the best in people in Kansas City.
One example of that arose when Hy-Vee kitchens started offering low-cost and free hot meals. Their company effort turned into something even more meaningful at the Blue Springs location as ordinary people stepped up to expand the giving.
Adults can get a plate for $3. Children 12 and under get one for free. They started offering the meals on Nov. 3. It was a Monday.
