Activists build benches at KC bus stops after transit authority removes seating

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Activists with Sunrise Movement KC built benches at city bus stops Saturday, responding to the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority’s decision to remove seating from transit stops.

About 75% of Kansas City bus stops don’t have anywhere to sit while riders wait, forcing passengers to stand for 15 minutes to an hour in various weather conditions.

The volunteer effort comes after KCATA replaced traditional benches with leaning benches, citing efforts to reduce loitering and improve safety at bus stops…
