After experiencing a population boom during the pandemic, Texas is now seeing its residents pack up and move on more than any other state, with four of its cities ranking among the top 10 in the nation with the highest turnover, according to a new analysis by Realtor.com.

Why It Matters

While a high number of residents selling their homes to move elsewhere might suggest a population exodus, this is not the case for Texas.

While domestic in-migration has slowed down compared to its pandemic peak, many continue to move to the state from the likes of California, Florida, and New York. More than 265,000 people moved to Texas in the past year, according to a report by hireahelper.com.

What a high turnover indicates, on the other hand, is a healthier market than the nationwide one, which has remained sluggish this year after slowing down in the spring and summer, a period typically active.
