Let me say from the start that the majority of Missourians are not to blame for this new data that’s been shared that reveals Missouri is now among the top 10 most dangerous states and they have 3 neighbors joining them there.
I came across this brand new ranking that was just shared today by World Atlas. I see a lot of “most dangerous” lists and this one is based on some of the most valid data which is the most recent full year of crime according to the FBI which is, of course, 2024. I still see other lists that are based on ancient FBI data from 2019 which I normally ignore. This is much more recent.
They compiled the crime rate for each state on a per capita basis which means the number reflects crime for every 100,000 residents. There’s no perfect system, but that’s about as fair as it gets. With those numbers crunched, Missouri is now rated as the 8th most dangerous state in America. Thanks again, St. Louis, Kansas City and Springfield for your contribution to Missouri ascending on this list.
They say misery (or should that be Missouri?) loves company and there’s plenty of that from other midwestern states bordering Missouri, too. Tennessee is now ranked as the 3rd most dangerous state followed by Arkansas at #4 and Kansas is right behind Missouri (in so many ways) as the 9th most dangerous state…
