KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) – For the third night in one week, JC Van Deventer will embark on a 16-mile overnight walk from his Lee’s Summit home to the KCK school where he teaches. He wears shorts in subzero temperatures without a jacket. It’s symbolic of what so many of the kids he teaches go through.
The Rosedale Middle School teacher started the walks after finding out a former student — now a 9th-grader — was experiencing homelessness. He was determined to do something.
