Shelter KC holds meal, candlelit service for homeless on Christmas Eve

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Shelter KC spread some cheer on Christmas Eve by hosting a hot meal for overnight guests, as well as a candlelit service. The nonprofit has been hosting events like these for the last 75 years.

“You may feel isolated, but you will not feel isolated tonight,” said Eric Burger, Shelter KC’s executive director. “We just get to be family tonight and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.”

Burger says a majority of the shelter staff are given the night off, and the event is mostly volunteer-driven. Volunteers donned their aprons and worked in shifts to prepare baked potatoes and salad, chop onions and mushrooms, and manned the grill to cook shrimp and steaks…
