Kansas City residents eagerly await 2026 FIFA World Cup as city finalizes preparations

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – As Kansas City welcomes 2026, the surrounding metro will have significant preparations to complete before FIFA World Cup matches begin in June.

Seven teams from four continents will compete in Kansas City during what organizers call one of the biggest events in the city’s history. The city has not yet announced what renovations will take place to accommodate teams and fans.

Teams also need to select base camp sites from three potential locations identified by the city, including the Sporting KC and KC Current training facilities along with Rock Chalk Park. Officials expect those details in April…
