Sprinkler system keeps fire in elderly woman’s apartment from spreading

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – The Kansas City Fire Department treated one person for burns Saturday evening.

Crews were called to an apartment building in the 3000 block of Benton Boulevard just after 5:30 p.m. on January 10. They found an active water flow alarm and followed it to an apartment unit with its sprinklers activated.

Firefighters forced the door open and found the unit filled with smoke. The fire was already controlled, and crews needed to make no further interventions, thanks to the sprinklers. The smoke was vented from the building…
