KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Construction is underway on Kansas City’s future temporary jail facility, with materials now on site and groundwork completed. This effort on the ground started before the new year, but just days ago, city councilmembers approved additional funding for the project.
Crews have laid the foundation and the first few cells are visible at the jobsite. The city says the project remains on track to open by June 1, with crews expected to receive more materials next week to build the entire structure over the existing cells.
Steel construction to begin soon
The project is moving quickly and staying on schedule, according to Assistant City Manager Jeff Martin.
