Project Pet Warmth brings free winter supplies to hundreds of Kansas City pet owners

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Hundreds of pet owners lined up at the Linwood YMCA Sunday morning for free supplies to keep their animals warm this winter.

The fifth annual Project Pet Warmth event drew a massive turnout as organizers distributed dog houses, kennels, straw, blankets and coats on a first-come, first-served basis.

“What’s the purpose of having a dog if you can’t keep them warm?” said Tasha Jones, a pet owner who attended the event. “It was good to get out today and give them a little bit of breeze, at least that. Help out with what we need as far as supplies that they need for the puppies today.”

The large turnout highlighted the increasing need for pet assistance in the Kansas City area.

“All of the organizations here work in outreach within the community. And the need is more than it’s ever been. It’s just, it’s going up and up and up,” said Emily Burrows, director of outreach for The Rescue Project…
