Kansas City considers ban on small liquor bottles and beer in high-crime areas

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – Some Kansas City officials want to ban the sale of single-serve small liquor bottles and beer in certain high-crime areas of the city.

The proposed ordinance would affect liquor up to 35% alcohol in containers under 7 ounces, including half pints. Single-serve beer would also face restrictions, requiring containers larger than 40 ounces for sale.

The ban would not apply citywide. It would only affect stores with liquor licenses in the Prospect Corridor, Independence Avenue, parts of downtown, Blue Ridge and Midtown.
