A Kansas City, Kansas, man has been sentenced in federal court for unlawfully possessing a Glock .45-caliber handgun following an assault and a later armed standoff with law enforcement.
Aaron T. Fant, 35, received a 12-year federal prison sentence without parole from Chief U.S. District Judge Brian C. Wimes after being convicted of being a felon in possession of a firearm. The 12-year term is equivalent to 144 months.
Court records state that on March 20, 2023, Fant tried to force his way into the apartment of a female acquaintance. As the woman attempted to shut the door and block entry, Fant struck her in the chest in an effort to get inside. Her 16-year-old son stepped between them to intervene. Authorities said Fant then pulled a black-and-silver handgun from his waistband and hit the juvenile in the head with the weapon. The woman managed to push Fant away from the doorway and secure the door. As he left, Fant threatened those inside, warning that he would kill them if police were contacted.
