Wild Elk Struck & Killed By Vehicle Near Kansas City

CLAY COUNTY, Mo. — Deputies in Clay County — north of Kansas City — responded to an unusual crash early Wednesday morning after a vehicle struck a wild elk near Kearney.

The Clay County Sheriff’s Office said the crash was reported around 5:30 a.m. on Summersette Road near Means Street. Missouri Department of Conservation agents later confirmed the animal involved was a wild elk. Unfortunately the elk did not survive.

It’s unclear whether the driver was injured, as they left the scene before deputies arrived. Conservation officials say while wild elk do live in parts of southeast Missouri, sightings in this part of the state are rare…
