Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe Appoints New Judges to Kansas City and St. Louis Judicial Circuits

Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe made a significant announcement regarding the future composition of the state’s judiciary. On Monday, Governor Kehoe named three new judges to the 16th and 22nd Judicial Circuits, marking a moment of transition and starting a new chapter for the courts involved. The appointments come as replacements for judges who have opted for retirement, ensuring that the bench remains at full strength to administer justice.

Among those appointed is Michelle Cocayne of Kansas City, who will serve as a Circuit Judge in the 16th Judicial Circuit. Her appointment fills the seat left vacant by Judge J. Dale Youngs’s retirement. Cocayne’s background is robust with experience, having been both assistant prosecutor for Clay County and a practicing attorney in the private sector. Her academic credentials include a B.A. in Political Science and Religious Studies and a Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri–Kansas City School of Law – a fact noted by the Governor’s office.

Filling another critical role, Catherine Dierker has been appointed as a Circuit Judge in the 22nd Judicial Circuit of St. Louis. Until recently serving as an associate circuit judge, Dierker brings her prosecutorial background from working with both the Missouri Attorney General’s Office and the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office to the forefront. She is preparing to take over from Judge David C. Mason following his retirement.
